Mortgage Rates Inch Up: The average interest rate for a U.S. 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage rose to 7.48% from 7.47% last week, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said. In its weekly report, Freddie Mac said the average rate for a 15-year fixed mortgage climbed to 6.98% from 6.97% the prior week. Freddie Mac said lenders charged an unchanged average of 1.7% in fees and points on both the 30- and 15-year, fixed-rate loans.
