SAS Gets OK for Euro-Merger: The three Nordic countries that own Scandinavian Airlines System cleared the way for a planned full alliance with Dutch, Swiss and Austrian partners. But until all the owners of SAS, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Swissair and Austrian Airlines have approved the blueprint, code-named Alcazar, the plan for a joint operating company will stay on the drawing board. All four management teams have been lobbying their owners to let them form a giant carrier that will be bigger than all its leading West European competitors in terms of number of planes and passengers.
