Gulfstream Aerospace Cuts 645 Jobs: The ailing top-of-the-line business jet maker has cut about 13% of its work force, completing a restructuring program. Most of the jobs were eliminated through early retirements, said the privately held, Savannah, Ga.-based concern. But about 45 employees were fired, said Janie Rovolis, a spokeswoman. Most cuts were in the Savannah headquarters, though staffing was also reduced at smaller facilities in Oklahoma City and Long Beach, she said. The company is pinning its hopes on a new plane in development, the Gulfstream V, which would have a range of 6,500 miles and be able to carry eight passengers nonstop from New York to Tokyo in 14 hours.
