AMERICAN LEGION ROUNDUP : Kmet, Wolf Sparkle in 12-6 Victory

Greg Kmet scattered five hits over eight innings and Randy Wolf had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Woodland Hills West to a 12-6 victory over Newhall-Saugus Thursday in an elimination game of the American Legion District 20 baseball playoffs at Birmingham High.
West will play the loser of today’s Las Virgenes-Woodland Hills East game Saturday at 11 a.m. at Birmingham.
Trailing, 4-3, after 4 1/2 innings, West scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth on four hits and a walk to take a 7-4 advantage.
Wolf had a two-run single in the inning for West. He walked three times and scored twice.
Kmet (4-0) gave up five runs, four earned, walked three batters and struck out five before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the eighth.
Mike Glendenning had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for West. His RBI double in the third broke a 2-2 tie, and his solo home run in the sixth gave West an 8-5 lead.
Chris Seal (two RBIs), Jeff Astgen (one run, one RBI) and John Novak (one RBI) each had two hits for West.
Brandon Hernandez was two for four with a RBI and scored a run for Newhall Saugus (15-9).
Las Virgenes 6, Palmdale East 5--Josh Morton got Kevin Haberger to fly out to left field with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, giving Las Virgenes (17-6) the victory in a winner’s bracket game at Birmingham High.
Las Virgenes will play Woodland Hills East at Birmingham at 4 today, following an elimination game between Palmdale East and Van Nuys East.
Morton gave up 11 hits, walked six batters, hit two and struck out eight for Las Virgenes, which had a 6-2 lead before Palmdale East (14-9) scored three in the ninth.
