* * 1/2 Urge Overkill, “Saturation,” Geffen. The quirky Chicago trio’s journey into ‘78-vintage FM rock is about as riveting, or humorous, as the playlist of your average classic-rock station. Despite rock hooks cheesier than Loverboy’s, song structures more predictable than BTO’s best and vocals a la Eddie Money, they still claim their sound is no parody. The band needs to either add its own twist or pump up the kitsch value.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
