Gripe : ‘Peace and Quiet at the Beach? Forget It’

Have you been to the beach lately? If you are looking for a nice afternoon of peace and quiet, you can forget it. Our Los Angeles County beaches have become a pathway of loud, low-flying airplanes pulling a variety of advertising banners across the sky, hawking everything from beer to booze to nightclubs.
These older-model planes, louder than most, don’t fly by just once or twice; I counted 21 times as the faded “Silver Bullet” banner flew past my spot in the sand. The noise makes it impossible to carry on a simple conversation and taking a nap is out of the question. These advertisers have no right to disturb our peace.
Yes, companies have a right to advertise, but at the expense of the customers they are trying to entice? I don’t think so. I, for one, will never buy a bottle of Coors beer or Panama Jack suntan lotion.
