Bell, Maywood : Student Volunteers Sought to Clean up Business Areas

Bell and Maywood are seeking hundreds of student volunteers to help clean up local business areas later this month.
The cleanup, sponsored by the Bell and Maywood chambers of commerce and local merchants, helps high school students “take an interest in their community and gives them a better place to live,” said Warren Schmuki, general manager of the Bell chamber. Last year’s event attracted about 400 students from Bell High School, Schmuki said.
Bell City Clerk Patricia Casjens said, “The kids responsible enough to attend this are a little more careful about throwing things in the street afterward.”
Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Maywood Community Center, 4747 E. 56th St. A free barbecue and swim party is scheduled after the cleanup.
