World IN BRIEF : CHINA : 1,257 Died in Dam Burst, U.N. Reports

A dam that burst last week in remote Qinghai province in western China has claimed more than 1,250 lives so far, the U.N. disaster relief agency said in Geneva. It said 1,257 people had died and 336 were injured in the collapse of the 200-foot-high Gouhou Reservoir Dam.
