Royal 15, Thousand Oaks 13--Royal senior kicker Brent Thompson booted field goals of 49 and 41 yards and the Highlanders held the Lancers inside the Royal 30-yard line as time expired to preserve the win at Moorpark College.

Thousand Oaks running back Greg Johnson scored on a 14-yard dash to bring the Lancers to within 15-13 with 9:04 to play. But Royal linebacker Kevin Musser foiled the conversion attempt by stopping Johnson after a screen pass completion at the one-yard line.

Royal scored on its first possession as quarterback Wes Lagatta hit fullback Mike Reddington with a 46-yard pass. Lagatta completed 12 of 18 passes for 114 yards.

Thousand Oaks answered late in the second quarter when Trevor Thompson hit sophomore Brandon Jackson with a 34-yard scoring pass.

The Highlanders went ahead to stay with 1:37 left in the first half when Trevor Thompson recovered his own fumble in the end zone for a safety. After the free kick, Brent Thompson followed with his 49-yard field goal with five seconds left in the half.
