Washington’s leading receiver, Jason Shelley, has been suspended indefinitely after a run-in with police, school officials said. Shelley, 19, and another Washington athlete, basketball player Prentiss Perkins, 21, were arrested Sunday after police chased a car the two were riding in. The car, registered to Shelley’s parents of Vallejo, Calif., was driven by a third person Shelley said he did not know.
Police gave chase after noticing Shelley, in the back seat, was drinking a 40-ounce beer. The car ran two red lights and narrowly avoided collisions with several vehicles before spinning out of control. Shelley and Perkins fled on foot and were arrested nearby.
