LAGUNA BEACH — The lights went out on Laguna Beach’s 21-14 homecoming loss to Coronado Friday night.
Literally.
With the game tied, 14-14, with four minutes remaining, Coronado’s Sean Willis recovered a fumble by Laguna Beach quarterback Pat Wood at Coronado’s 34-yard line. Five plays later, Ledge Hakes scored his third touchdown of the game on an eight-yard run that put the Islanders ahead, 21-14, with 2:26 remaining.
Then the field lights went out.
After a brief delay, play resumed and Wood led the Artists on an impressive drive o the Islanders’ six-yard line. But with the clock running and less than 15 seconds left, Wood was stopped by linebacker Dave Nichols at the four.
Laguna Beach (1-4) scored on its first possession with a 58-yard touchdown pass from Wood to Garrett Chesley with 10:02 left in the first quarter.
Wood, who completed 13 of 24 for 186 yards and one touchdown, scored on a 13-yard run with 55 seconds remaining in the half to give Laguna Beach a 14-7 lead.
