Teledyne Unit Lays Off 200: The company’s Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical unit dismissed the workers from its San Diego plant because its $188.6-million contract to build medium-range aircraft drones was canceled by the Navy. Teledyne said the unit, which now employs 1,480 overall, will also lay off an additional 80 people as early as next week. The division, which got the contract in 1989, has received $130.4 million from the project so far. The Navy said the project “isn’t affordable given its priority . . . and the resources available.” The drones are used for reconnaissance or as decoys over enemy territory.
