COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOCCER ROUNDUP : Monroe’s Goal Boosts Rancho Santiago

Max Monroe scored the game’s only goal 12 minutes into the second half and Rancho Santiago upset first-place Irvine Valley, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference soccer game Tuesday at Irvine.

It was the first conference loss for Irvine Valley (12-2-3, 5-1-1). Rancho Santiago is 7-8-1, 3-5.

In other Orange Empire men’s soccer:

Fullerton 4, Riverside 1--Neil Schuster blocked a penalty kick, got to his feet and blocked the rebound to keep Fullerton ahead, 2-1, in the second half. Israel Cedillo had two goals for Fullerton (5-6-5, 3-4-1). Second-place Riverside is 9-4-1, 4-3-1.

Golden West 2, Cypress 1--Jayson Holmgren and Radim Konecny scored for Golden West (8-8, 5-6). Pat Trevino scored and R.J. Gonzalez had 11 saves for Cypress (4-8-3, 1-5-2).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Fullerton 1, Orange Coast 1--Cayce Meade scored about midway in the second half to tie the score for host Orange Coast (10-6-1, 4-2-1). Michele Hansen scored about eight minutes earlier for Fullerton (1-9-4, 0-5-3).

Cypress 3, Golden West 0--Sarah Heilman, Christy Rowe and Debbie Klein scored for host Cypress (17-0-1, 8-0).
