CHATSWORTH — Shortstop Bryan LaCour of Chatsworth High has made an oral commitment to play baseball next season at Stanford, he said Tuesday.
LaCour, a Times All-Valley and All-City Section selection as a junior, also was recruited by Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara, among others. Stanford offered a partial scholarship.
LaCour said he was recruited to play third base, outfield or catcher. The NCAA’s weeklong early signing period begins next Wednesday.
“Stanford was my first choice all along,” said LaCour, who carries a grade-point average of 3.8. “It’s definitely got the best combination of baseball and academics.”
LaCour led Chatsworth to the City 4-A Division final last spring.
LaCour (6-foot-1 1/2, 175 pounds) led the team with a .448 batting average, 39 runs, 43 hits and four home runs. LaCour tied for the area lead in doubles (16) and ranked 13th among area City players in runs batted in (26).
