CANOGA PARK — A woman was seriously hurt Thursday when she was run over by her own van, which one of her children apparently put into gear as it idled in the driveway of her house, Los Angeles police said.
April Valjien, 35, was in serious condition at Tarzana Regional Medical Center on Thursday night with fractured ribs and internal injuries, said Officer Clark Baker.
Valjien’s 3-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son, who were inside the van at the time, were not injured, Baker said.
The accident occurred in the 19800 block of Archwood Street after Valjien got out of her 1986 Plymouth Voyager to open the chain-link fence that encloses her yard, Baker said. After she opened the gate, one of her children apparently bumped the van into gear, and Valjien fell under the vehicle as it rolled backward, Baker said.
The van stopped after it hit two parked cars in the street, Baker said.
The accident caused no other injuries.
