GARDEN GROVE — For a player who has missed more than half the season, Tommy Summers sure doesn’t show it.
Summers, a junior running back, scored three touchdowns to lead Pacifica (5-4, 4-2) to a 21-0 victory over Santiago in a Garden Grove League game Friday night at Garden Grove High.
“(Summers) has missed six to seven games because of injury,” Pacifica Coach Bill Craven said. “Tommy’s a little gun shy so he needs to get it back.”
Summers is replacing the injured Damien Cook.
“Cook got hurt in practice Tuesday,” Craven added, “and sustained ligament damage in his right ankle. There is a possible crack, but we won’t know until we see the X-rays.”
Summers put a hurt on Santiago, (0-9, 0-6) and it wasn’t hard to see that the Cavaliers were in trouble.
Summers scored on a 14-yard run with 4 minutes 50 seconds left in the first quarter. Craig Chow kicked the first of three conversions.
Summers scored on a two-yard run with 4:07 left in the first half.
Pacifica got its final score with 6:20 remaining in the third quarter, when Summers scored from five yards.
Summers rushed for 66 yards in 12 carries.
The Pacifica defense recorded eight sacks.
