Thousand Oaks 24, Simi Valley 7--Sparked by two second-quarter touchdowns on reverse plays, including a 90-yard kickoff return by Bill Sperry, the host Lancers posted a convincing victory.
After Sperry’s return, which gave the Lancers (2-6-1, 2-3-1) the lead for good, 14-7, Thousand Oaks’ Evan Philo recovered an onside kick at the Simi Valley 38. Eight plays later, Greg Aguilar ran 13 yards on another reverse for a touchdown.
Thousand Oaks opened the scoring on Frank Coletta’s one-yard run, capping a 12-play, 85-yard drive.
Simi Valley (4-5, 2-4) tied the score, 7-7, when quarterback Jeremie Watkins threw a two-yard pass to Ken Huggins in the second quarter. Watkins, playing his first game in three weeks after a hairline fracture in his left ankle, completed 22 of 31 passes for 250 yards.
Eddie Chung recovered two fumbles for Thousand Oaks.
