Student Applauds Frank R. Duarte

I was very glad to see your recognition of Frank R. Duarte (“The Elder of East L.A.,” Oct. 25). It gave me great pleasure to read about the accomplishments of a Latino man in this city.

I am a 17-year-old Latino high school student. In times in which many see immigrants--for the most part, Latinos--as either the criminal gangsters on the street or the super poor who live their lives on welfare, it was quite nice to see a tribute to a man who has brought such good to the city.
