Controlled Burns Permitted at 28 County Locations

Controlled fires burned from Hidden Valley to Ojai on Saturday during an official, countywide “controlled burn” day.
Altogether, there were 28 blazes, said Pam Sears, a dispatcher for the county Fire Department. All those who burned property did so with a permit they obtained from the county on Friday, she said.
“The Air Pollution Control District tells us things are right for a burn--no clouds are holding down the smoke, etc.--and then we announce the day before that tomorrow will be a controlled burn day,” Sears said.
Most of the burns were related to agriculture, she said, such as those by farmers who wanted to burn lemon or avocado trimmings.
