Lawmaker to Leave Office

WASHINGTON — Rep. Tim Valentine (D-N.C.) told members of the House on Tuesday that he will not seek reelection next year and instead will return to the practice of law. Valentine, 67, is serving his sixth two-year term. He won 54% of the vote in 1992, a sharp drop from the 75% he received in 1990.
