OUTLOOK
Returning six from last year’s 10-14 squad has Romeo thinking playoffs. The Sentinels will be led by three-year starters Bonales, Mathews and Torregano. Mathews was an all-league first-team selection last season, and Torregano received all-league honorable-mention honors. “All three girls possess well-rounded skills, complement each other on the court, and have the talent and poise to control most games,” Romeo said. Bennem, Kelly and Picchi will provide rebounding and defense down low. Romeo believes this team could be the best he’s had in five seasons, including a team that reached the Southern Section quarterfinals a couple of years ago. Newcomers Chairez and Mary Tuazon, last season’s junior varsity MVP, have the speed and ability to add depth to the up-tempo game style. Romeo’s main concern is replacing all-league honorable-mention guard Stoni Isaacks, who transferred. He said goals for the Sentinels are to develop a winning mentality, finish first or second in league, and peak for the playoffs.
