Alhambra : In Memory of DUI Victims
In an effort to focus attention on deaths and injuries caused by drunk and drugged drivers, the Alhambra Police Department will turn on police vehicle headlights on Tuesday.
“Lights for Life” will honor those killed or injured by those driving under the influence and is jointly sponsored by the California Office of Traffic Safety and the California Coalition Against Driving Under the Influence.
Last year, drunk drivers caused 48,969 injuries and 1,832 deaths in California, according to state officials.
Said Alhambra Police Chief Russell Siverling: “This is our way of sending a positive message to the community and reminding the public that during the holidays, law enforcement will be cracking down on those who choose to drink and drive and place innocent people’s lives in jeopardy.”
