A 46-year-old Camarillo man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a Hollywood man whose body was found in the Santa Monica Mountains, authorities said Wednesday.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives arrested James Joseph Barrentine at his Camarillo apartment about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies also searched Barrentine’s apartment and impounded his car.
Barrentine is suspected of killing Andres Garcia, 22, with blunt force, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Detective John Gentzvein said.
Tourists found Garcia’s body Saturday near Topanga Canyon Boulevard, about four miles north of Pacific Coast Highway. Gentzvein said the tourists had stopped their car to view the scenery when they saw the body.
Authorities have not found a weapon and would not comment on a motive.
Barrentine is being held without bail in Los Angeles.
