MISSION VIEJO : Doctor to Take Helm of Saddleback Board
- Share via
Dr. Dore Gilbert, a 13-year member of the Saddleback Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees, has been elected to serve as its president in 1994.
Gilbert, a dermatologist, was the only board member nominated for the position and was chosen last week by a unanimous vote of the five-member board.
This is the fourth time Gilbert has been president. First elected to the board in 1981, he served in the top position in 1983-84 and 1987-88 and in an interim role in 1990.
Gilbert has been instrumental in the district’s zero-tolerance policy banning drugs, alcohol, tobacco and weapons from school campuses. He also was a proponent of tightening grade requirements, which is now one of the strictest in the state, district spokeswoman Elaine Carter said.
In other voting, Trustee Marcia L. Birch was re-elected vice president in a 3-2 vote over Trustee Frank Ury, and outgoing President Bobbi Cline was elected clerk in a 3-2 vote over Trustee Debbie Hughes.
Hughes and Ury voted in the minority on both votes.
