R. Craig Scott is the city’s new mayor.
In an election by City Council members last week, Scott was chosen unanimously to serve in the top post.
Scott, 40, previously served as mayor pro tem for the 2-year-old city. He succeeds L. Allan Songstad Jr.
In the last year, Scott was instrumental in the passage of Laguna Hills’ strict anti-smoking ordinance that went into effect in September.
Scott, father of eight children, is a labor lawyer who runs his own firm.
In another vote, Councilman Randal J. Bressette was chosen as the city’s mayor pro tem.
Scott’s and Bressette’s council terms expire in 1994.
