Many of the best girls’ basketball players are stars from the moment they enter high school. But Oenning took a slower route, not making the varsity full-time until last year. She was a first-team All-Sea View League selection last year and this year is the Warriors’ captain. Oenning scored 23 points in a 65-50 victory over Cypress in the title game of the Cypress tournament. She averaged 15.3 points, seven rebounds, 4.3 steals and 3.5 assists in the tournament. “She’s playing a real efficient kind of basketball,” Coach Eric Bangs said.
Other notables:
* Sarah Davis, Tustin, averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in leading the Tillers to the Bolsa Grande tournament title.
* Deborah Hargrave, Fullerton, had six goals and three assists as the Hornets won three of four games.
* Farrah Magee, Ocean View, scored 27 points in a 72-53 victory over La Quinta in the La Quinta tournament title game. She was named MVP.
* Michelle Miyake, Villa Park, scored 25 points in Villa Park’s 61-44 victory over Villa Park in the Orange Lutheran tournament final.
