1990 Riverside Farm Zinfandel ($5.75) --This brand is a second label of Foppiano Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, which made excellent Zinfandel under its own label until the early 1980s, when it couldn’t get enough good-quality fruit and began making this lower-priced version. Riverside Farm Zinfandels are from both Russian River and Dry Creek Valley fruit, and each year it has been a good value. This vintage of the wine is raspberry-spice scented and full-bodied (it has 14.5% alcohol), but not overripe or Porty. This wine is largely available in restaurants, especially by the glass, but savvy wine shop owners will have some too.
