Exemptions for Lower Utility Tax, Trash Bill
- Share via
Politicians are always seeking ways to relieve taxpayers of their hard-earned dollars. They often fail to let taxpayers know how they can reclaim a few bucks here and there.
On July 21, 1993, South Pasadena City Councilman Harry Knapp made a motion to “direct the city manager to publicize the particulars of the low-income exemption program in the appropriate mediums.” It passed 4-0. Several months have passed, and nothing has been received by me in the mail, in newspapers or in the water bills. Apparently, Councilman Knapp failed to follow up!
To be exempted from paying both the 5% utility tax and the landscaping/lighting assessment, income must be less than: Family of (1) $27,050; (2) $30,900; (3) $34,800; (4) $38,650; (5) $41,750; (6) $44,800.
You can have your trash bill reduced considerably if your income is less than: Family of (1) $16,900; (2) $19,300; (3) $21,750; (4) $24,150; (5) $26,100; (6) $28,000; (7) $29,950; (8 or more) $31,900.
I’m sure there are people in town who do not know about their rights to file for these exemptions. If interested, they can contact City Hall at (818) 799-9101 for more information.
