FACES ‘94: Some Names to Be Reckoned With in the New Year : ART : The Next Head of LACMA

Until the eagerly awaited Bruce Nauman retrospective arrives at the Museum of Contemporary Art in July, expect art world attention to be riveted across town. There, the L.A. County Museum of Art will embark on the search for a director--the second such search it has made in as many years. In the 1980s, LACMA fully joined the majors among American museums; a vibrant new director should be able to establish it as an innovative leader. Whoever this mystery man--or, mirabile dictu , mystery woman--turns out to be will have his or her work cut out in stabilizing the institution’s financial picture, building morale among staff and charting an invigorating artistic direction for the future.
