Russian Industrial Output Plummets: The record 25.5% decline in January compared to a year earlier was reported by the State Statistics Committee in Moscow, according to the Interfax news agency. Industrial output fell 18% in 1993 and 16% in 1992. Russia’s new government, dominated by conservative ministers with close links to industry, hopes to support production with growth-oriented policies, including cheap loans to agriculture and higher state subsidies.
