The Court Jester (AMC Sunday at noon, Monday at 7 a.m.), Norman Panama and Melvin Frank’s 1956 treat, is a fast and witty spoof of swashbucklers starring Danny Kaye (in top form) and featuring songs by Sylvia Fine and Sammy Cahn.
Lifeguard (Lifetime Thursday at 4 p.m.), a 1976 release, is one of the overlooked gems of its decade. Sam Elliott stars as a dashing yet reflective Southern California lifeguard whose encounter with Anne Archer at a high school reunion proves pivotal. Written by Ron Koslow and directed by Daniel Petrie.
Beauty and the Beast (Bravo Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at midnight) is Jean Cocteau’s exquisite, surreal 1946 rendering of the fairy tale. With Jean Marais, Josette Day.
Billy Liar (Bravo Friday at 3 p.m.) stars Tom Courtenay in the title role of John Schlesinger’s 1963 British film about a young daydreamer stuck in a dull job.
