A Maryland inmate awaiting a gas chamber execution has agreed to have his death videotaped so that a fellow inmate can argue that the method constitutes cruel and unusual punishment, the National Law Journal reported. The weekly legal newspaper says in its issue available today that a federal judge in Baltimore has approved the videotaping of the execution of convicted murderer John Thanos, who is scheduled to die this spring in Maryland’s first execution since 1961.
