HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Two Ventura Pins Stick Santa Ana With Setback

Ryan and Sean Burdick pinned their opponents in the final two matches, giving Ventura High a 30-25 victory over Santa Ana in the Southern Section Division I wrestling semifinals Wednesday night at Ventura.
Ventura (18-1) trailed, 25-18, heading into the 189-pound match, in which Ryan Burdick pinned Harvey Alvarado 3 minutes 44 seconds into the match. His older brother, Sean, pinned Frank Picos at 1:54 of the heavyweight match, sending the Cougars into the championship match next Thursday.
Ventura defeated Royal, 51-15, and Camarillo, 39-26, earlier in the day to advance to the semifinal.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Kennedy 64, Granada Hills 30--In their first game in more than a month, the Golden Cougars (13-4, 4-0) played at San Fernando High due to earthquake damage at the Kennedy gym. Kerri Garland had 10 points and 18 rebounds.
Mojave 50, L.A. Baptist 41--Darlene Dotson and Debrah Weil scored 15 points apiece to lead Mojave (18-5) to a victory in a Division IV-A wild-card game at Brentwood. Darcie Frazier and Jody Weston led L.A. Baptist (12-10) with 14 points apiece.
Channel Islands 48, Irvine 36--The Raiders outscored Irvine, 14-0, in the third quarter in the Division I-A first-round game at Channel Islands.
Shawanda Hotchkiss scored 15 points for Channel Islands (23-3).
Hart 78, El Monte 27--Melissa Dunkerley led Hart (17-6) with 17 points in a Division I-A game at The Master’s College.
Thousand Oaks 53, Palmdale 46--The Lancers (19-7) jumped to an early 10-point lead and won the Division I-A playoff game. Nicole Woodruff scored 15 points for Thousand Oaks.
El Camino Real 71, Reseda 10--The 61-point victory was the Conquistadores’ biggest under fifth-year Coach Lori Chandler. El Camino Real (8-4, 4-0 in the Northwest Valley Conference) pulled out to a 20-0 lead using a full-court press.
Arroyo Grande 44, Royal 41--Staci Andrews scored 17 points and Jennifer Napoli had 16 to lead Arroyo Grande (16-9) in the wild-card playoff game.
Tawnee Cooper had 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Highlanders.
Quartz Hill 96, Valley View 33--Ten of 11 Rebel players scored in the Division I-A first-round victory that saw Quartz Hill (18-4) pull out to a 63-20 halftime lead. Erika Kusek scored 27 points.
