The season appeared over for the San Fernando High boys’ soccer team when it lost to South Gate, 3-2, last Friday in the first round of the City Section playoffs.
But after inquiries by Tiger officials, South Gate was discovered to have used an ineligible player and had to forfeit its victory.
San Fernando (4-3-1) will play Garfield in a second-round match today.
South Gate forward Carlos Osorio--who scored a goal against the Tigers--has been academically ineligible since December. Tiger coaches made inquiries about Osorio after being suspicious that he was too old to play.
Baseball
Van Nuys High will hold an alumni baseball game Saturday at 10 a.m. at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park. All former Van Nuys players are eligible. Information: (818) 781-2371, ext. 216.
