MONTEBELLO : Study Ordered on Proposed Mausoleum
- Share via
The City Council has ordered an environmental study before deciding whether a controversial two-story mausoleum should be built at Resurrection Cemetery.
The city Planning Commission previously approved a request by the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles to build the mausoleum. But residents, many from neighboring Monterey Park, contended the structure would clash with the graveyard’s park-like setting, block homeowners’ views and attract graffiti.
Monterey Park City Council members last year asked for a review of the church’s plans after hundreds of residents signed a petition opposing the project.
The report is scheduled to be finished at the end of July and will be paid for by the archdiocese.
