Regional Final to Be Televised

The Southern California Division I boys’ basketball final, Saturday at Anaheim Arena, will be televised by KCAL-TV (Channel 9), with pregame coverage at 7:30 p.m. and tipoff at 7:40 p.m.
Mater Dei and Los Angeles Crenshaw figure to be strong contenders to meet in the title game, with the winner advancing to the State championship game, March 19 at the Oakland Coliseum Arena.
The Monarchs (31-0) are ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today and No. 1 in the state in the Cal-Hi poll. They held off Edison, 65-59, last Saturday in the Anaheim Arena to win the Southern Section Division I-A championship.
Crenshaw (25-2) is ranked fifth in the nation by USA Today and No. 2 by Cal-Hi. The Cougars beat Dorsey, 72-53, Friday in the City Section Division IV-A championship game.
In tonight’s regional first-round games, Mater Dei plays host to Crescenta Valley (18-9) at 7:30 in the Bren Center and Edison (19-10) travels to Crenshaw.
KCAL also will sponsor and contribute $5,000 to the CIF Scholar-Athlete of the Year program. This year’s winners will be honored at the State track and field championships, June 4 at Cerritos College.
