Ventura’s sixth annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held Saturday, featuring the theme, “Our Fighting Irish Heroes,” and honoring all police officers.
The parade, which will begin at 10 a.m. at the San Buenaventura Mission, is expected to feature about 100 floats and bands from various service organizations and community groups.
Oxnard Police Detective Jim O’Brien, killed in a December shootout with slain killer Alan Winterbourne, has been named honorary grand marshal.
His widow Leslie and children Katie and Sean will ride in the grand marshal car.
The two-hour parade will travel through downtown Ventura and end at the Ventura Elks Lodge on Ash Street. The Elks Lodge will serve a meal of corned beef and cabbage immediately after the event. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children, and are available at the door.
