SCHOOL: Saugus
SPORT: Softball
YEAR: Sophomore
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Gillies, who backed up Adria Lombardi last season, has carried the pitching load for Saugus so far this year. The sophomore right-hander has eight of the Centurions’ 11 victories. Before being beaten, 4-1, by Marina on Tuesday night, she had allowed 18 hits and two earned runs in 54 1/3 innings, with 52 strikeouts and 18 walks.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Behind Gillies’ outstanding pitching, Saugus won two tournament championships (Chino and Hart) last week. Gillies recorded five of the Centurions’ seven victories in a span of four days. Her biggest coup of the week was a no-hitter against Bishop Amat, the top-ranked team in Southern Section Division II. She also earned victories over Chaffey, Alta Loma, Pomona Catholic and El Camino Real. Batting in the No. 9 slot, she went nine for 19 (.474).
