Peter Dalis, a lesson to you in athletic administration: At the expense of his team and its program, Laker General Manager Jerry West was not willing to waste six years on Randy Pfund--the NBA’s equivalent of Jim Harrick.

Chancellor Young: Do you think team owner Jerry Buss would retain Jerry West if he failed to make timely and essential personnel changes?

Maybe Peter Dalis will go to a bar late one night, have a few drinks and tell a couple of reporters (off the record) that just about any coach in America could have led the Bruins to another first-round loss in the NCAA tournament Come to think of it, Harrick would probably stay anyway.

UCLA would be better prepared for tournament play if only the Bruins would arrange tougher competition early in the campaign.

I suggest Harrick add Crenshaw and Mater Dei to next season’s December schedule.

Bruce Walker. Jamir Miller. And now Tommy Bennett. It seems like UCLA football has more to fear from the phrase “three strikes and you’re out” than UCLA baseball.
