Mexico’s Ignored Problem: Its Population Explosion

I do not presume it will do anything constructive to point out that columnist James Flanigan is wrong again with respect to what is right (or wrong) about Mexico (“A Stable Mexico Still Grappling With Change,” March 27). Flanigan will never give voice to what is truly affecting Mexico: namely, an exploding civilian population.
The basic fact is that no economy, irrespective of how altruistic or efficient, can possibly stay ahead of the population growth rate of Mexico. Even Southern California is learning (from its collapsing educational system and overcrowded surroundings) that it is difficult and costly to keep necessary infrastructure at pace with a major population base that does not exercise any form of birth control.
