PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Treanor’s Fourth Hit Gets Mater Dei Past Dana Hills

Matt Treanor was four for four and singled in the tying and winning runs with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the sixth for Mater Dei, which defeated Dana Hills, 5-4, in a South Coast League baseball game Friday in Santa Ana.
Adam Harris had a hit and two runs batted in in the fifth and Erik Mattern had two hits and scored two runs for the Monarchs, who stayed in first place with a 16-6-1 overall record, 11-2 in league. Dana Hills drops into a four-way tie for second with a 7-6 league record.
In other South Coast League games:
Capistrano Valley 13, El Toro 8--Ryan Gauntner had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Capistrano Valley (15-8, 7-6). Teammate Bobby Sprain added two hits and an RBI and Brian Harnetiaux added two hits, including a double. Peter Zamora struck out six in five innings and had two hits and two RBIs.
Ryan Fullerton hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Brian Saltarelli added a homer in the third for El Toro (7-6 in league).
San Clemente 2, Mission Viejo 1--Robert Frith struck out five and gave up no earned runs to win his first outing as a pitcher. Mike Wood’s double in the sixth inning scored the winning run for the Tritons (14-9, 7-6). Chad Wanders’ double in the fourth inning drove in the Tritons’ first run.
In the Century League:
Canyon 5, Foothill 2--Gunnar Strunz homered, and Troy Mills was two for three with an RBI and a run scored for host Canyon (18-5, 11-2), which clinches at least a tie for the league championship with Villa Park.
Villa Park 5, Santa Ana Valley 3--Sean McMahon’s single in the sixth inning scored the winning run for Villa Park (15-8, 9-4). McMahon finished the game three for four, with two RBIs. Winning pitcher Matt Parker went the distance and struck out five.
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 23, Loara 10--Chris Beck was three for four, including two doubles, and had four RBIs, to lead El Dorado (18-6, 10-3). Jeff Moore was three for five with six RBIs and Jerry Whitesman was four for five with three RBIs for the Golden Hawks.
In the Freeway League:
Fullerton 3, Troy 2 (5, rain)--Craig Freeman went two for three with one RBI to lead Fullerton (18-5, 10-3). Ryan Schatz singled in the winning run in the fifth inning for the Indians. Brad Downing hit a two-run home run in the fifth for Troy (15-6, 7-6).
La Habra 1, Buena Park 0--Nathan Shadle knocked in the wining run in the bottom of the sixth for La Habra (7-13, 3-10). Jeremy Payne pitched a complete game, giving up four hits and striking out six.
In the Garden Grove League:
Bolsa Grande 5, Los Amigos 2--Tony Alcorn went three for four with two RBIs and Alex Navarro went two for three with one RBI to lead Bolsa Grande (11-10, 7-5).
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 12, Ontario Christian 0--Jeff Reiland and Brad Vieslemeyer each had three RBIs for visiting Orange Lutheran (9-12, 5-4).
Whittier Christian 12, Calvary Chapel 1--Lance Jordan struck out seven to lead Whittier Christian to the league title. The Heralds finished with a 10-1 league record.
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 16, Anaheim 2--Ryan Valencia had three hits and four RBIs for Brea-Olinda (20-3, 10-3).
Valencia 6, Savanna 1 (5, rain)--Phil Shipman hit a three-run double in the second inning for host Valencia. Joe Secota led off the game with a home run and Justin Averitt had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers.
In the Sea View League:
Saddleback 8, University 1--Tony Zuniga pitched a five-hitter, striking out 11, and also had three hits, including two doubles, for host Saddleback (13-10-1, 7-5).
Tustin 13, Corona del Mar 4--Brian Helfper had three hits, including a home run, drove in three runs and pitched a seven-hitter, striking out three, for visiting Tustin (19-5, 11-1), ranked fifth.
