Nelson, Akau on NAIA Scholar List

Carrie Nelson, an outfielder at Southern California College, and Shannon Akau, a Buena Park High graduate pitching for Hawaii Pacific, have been named NAIA softball All-American scholar-athletes, the organization announced Wednesday.
Nelson, a junior from Broomfield, Colo., is carrying a 3.62 grade-point average in mathematics. Akau, a senior, has a 3.65 average in humanities.
The award honors juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale.

Dave McLeish, Southern California College men’s soccer coach, has announced several player signings. They are:
Kevin Villar, a junior transfer midfielder who played at Tustin High and Orange Coast College; Brian Hurley, a forward from El Dorado High; Brian McDuffie, a fullback from Rim of the World High; Matt Clements, a forward from Bonita High; John Mullinax, a fullback from Katella High, and John Lowell, who will be a sophomore goalkeeper and has played for several German clubs.
