WORLD IN BRIEF : RWANDA : 30 Patients Killed in Attack on Hospital

Rebels stepped up their push for Rwanda’s capital in a fierce artillery duel that killed 30 people at an overcrowded hospital in a government-held part of Kigali and rained shells on the airport and U.N. headquarters. Rebels denied having targeted the hospital. A Red Cross medical officer was wounded when his relief convoy was ambushed on the western edge of Kigali. He was later rescued. U.N. officials canceled relief flights into the city.
