The body of former San Diego Police Chief Olif Roeds was found in his suburban San Diego home Saturday. He apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Roeds was 74 and had been in failing health. His body was found in his Del Cerro neighborhood home by his wife, Nellie, said San Diego Police Lt. Tom Orden. Department officials said an autopsy was pending but further details were not immediately available.
Roeds served as San Diego police chief from the late 1960s until his retirement in 1970.
