Three members of the Nutra-Fig Cycling Team finished in the top seven and seven finished in the top 15 of the 45-mile Holy Cross Medical Center Criterium on Sunday at the Warner Center.
Thurlow Rogers of Van Nuys was first, followed by Shawn Cronkhite of Chatsworth (third) and John Wordin of West Hills (seventh).
Basketball
Bernard Nichtor, a former player for Antelope Valley High and Antelope Valley College, has been named boys’ basketball coach at Quartz Hill High.
Nichtor replaces Steve Hurst, who resigned after last season because of personal reasons. Nichtor served as head boys’ basketball coach at Santa Fe High for the past two seasons.
Shanon Sincock and Tianna Meriage of the Westlake High girls’ basketball team have signed college letters of intent.
Sincock, a 5-foot-11 guard-forward who averaged 12.2 points and 6.6 rebounds, will attend Biola College. Meriage, a 6-0 forward who averaged 6.9 points and 4.3 rebounds, will attend UC San Diego.
Cal State Northridge women’s basketball assistant Cheryl Kennedy has accepted a head-coaching position at Wisconsin-LaCrosse, a Division III school.
Kennedy, 39, spent one season at Northridge after five seasons as head coach at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
Miscellany
Fred Roggin, sportscaster for KNBC-TV Channel 4 in Burbank, will be the featured speaker at the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet at Doubletree Hotel in Ventura on June 18.
This year’s inductees include former Rio Mesa High football Coach John Reardon, Fillmore High baseball Coach Tom Ecklund, longtime area sports official Chet Dacayana, former Oxnard High multi-sport athlete Francis (Dick) McCarthy and the late Dave Henry, longtime softball player from the Oxnard area.
Also to be honored are top male and female athletes from area high schools and colleges, as well as teams that won Southern Section or college championships during the 1993-94 school year.

Agoura Pony Baseball will host an all-star tournament June 17 through July 2 at Lupin Hill Baseball Complex in Calabasas. All-star teams from Agoura, Camarillo, Santa Clarita, Malibu, Newbury Park, Simi Valley and Westlake are expected to compete.

Soccer
The Valley United Wild Things, an area-based girls’ 16-and-under soccer team, won the San Juan Capistrano regional tournament with an overtime victory (4-3 in penalty kicks) over North Huntington Beach on Monday at Capistrano Valley High.
Karie Huchting of Immaculate Heart High and Tami Pivnick of Chaminade scored goals during regulation, which ended in a 2-2 tie. Overtime goals were scored by Pivnick, Natalie Kim of Harvard-Westlake, Natalie Dorr of Ventura and Kim Daws of Louisville.
