Navy Terms First Undersea Blast a Success

VENTURA — After months of debate and at least one lawsuit, the Navy on Thursday detonated a 10,000-pound underwater explosive in the first “ship shock” trial of a new class of destroyers about 85 miles south of the Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station, officials said.
Navy officials said the 11:45 a.m. blast apparently caused no deaths or injuries to marine mammals.
