Delta to Cut 2,500 Jobs: The airline said it will make the cuts in its technical operations division over the next year. Employees in the unit will be offered voluntary retirement programs before being laid off, as well as job placement help, the carrier said. Affected positions include engineering, ground equipment, painting, tooling and aircraft planning. The layoffs are expected to help the Atlanta-based airline save $175 million to $280 million a year.
