OC HIGH / STUDENT NEWS AND VIEWS : Free Thinkers
- Share via
A group of students at Shasta High School in Redding has formed a free-thinkers club for “students who think before they believe.”
Student Derek Trunk said he organized the club to counter a Christian Club on campus that he said was “making the students who don’t believe in God feel that they’re doing something wrong.”
The group was originally called the Shasta Atheists Club but changed the name to more accurately reflect members’ views. “I’m not an atheist per se; I have my own religion,” said one member.
Meanwhile, the Christian Club says it isn’t being pushy. “We just go around spreading friendship,” an organizer said.
School officials say there is room on campus for both groups.
