NILES, Ohio — Golfer Kim Williams, shot in the neck while walking to a store, was reported in fair condition Sunday while police said the shooting was possibly an accident.
Police said Williams was shot in the neck about 9 p.m. Saturday while walking through the parking lot to a discount store.
Niles police Capt. Bruce Simeone suggested late Saturday that Williams was the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting. But on Sunday, Simeone said a man who lives behind the store turned over an unloaded nine-millimeter pistol he had used Saturday night for target practice. A projectile believed to be a nine-millimeter bullet casing was found near the scene of the shooting.
No charges had been filed.
Williams, 31, of Boca Raton, Fla., was competing in the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic.
