Arkansas Plans Triple Execution

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas plans to put three killers to death on the same day next month in the first triple execution by a state since capital punishment resumed in the United States in 1977.
Gov. Jim Guy Tucker on Wednesday set Aug. 3 as the date for executing Hoyt Clines, 37, Darryl Richley, 43, and James Holmes, 37, by injection. They were convicted of shooting Donald Lehman to death in a 1981 break-in at his home.
State prison spokesman Alan Ables said multiple executions would save money and reduce stress on prison employees.
